What you'll need for this food lab...

liquid measuring cups
dry measuring cups
measuring spoons
pastry brush
cookie sheet
fork
large bowl
knife

Ingredients:

1 ½ tsp. active dry yeast
2/3 c. warm water
1 ½ tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt

1 egg
1 tbsp. water
1 tbsp. coarse salt

Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 425 F. Lightly grease cookie sheet.
2. In a large bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water. Stir until yeast is dissolved.
3. Gradually stir in sugar, salt, whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour until a soft, sticky dough forms.
4. Turn dough onto a well-floured surface.
5. Knead dough until smooth – about 5-7 minutes, add a little more flour if necessary.
6. Divide dough into 8 equal pieces.
7. Let dough rest for 10 minutes for easier shaping.
8. Roll each dough piece into a 15cm long rope.
9. Shape each rope into a pretzel. Place on baking sheet.
